SICK Series W8 Photoelectric Sensor, IP67, 0.25ms Response Time - WL8-P2231

This photoelectric sensor is a Compact retroreflective detector designed for industrial automation. It uses a visible red LED to identify objects at short to medium ranges and is housed in a small rectangular ABS enclosure rated to withstand dust and water ingress. The unit connects via a 4-pin M8 male connector and provides a PNP switching output suitable for control circuits operating up to 30V.

What supply voltage does it accept for stable operation?

It runs from 10V DC to 30V DC with a ripple tolerance of ±10% for typical industrial supplies.

How is switching behaviour selected on the device?

A rotary switch on the housing allows selection between light-on and dark-on modes for direct compatibility with different control logic.

What environmental temperatures can it withstand in service?

The sensor operates between −25°C to +55°C and can be stored between −40°C to +70°C for spare inventory.

What accessories are included with delivery?

The unit is supplied with a stainless steel mounting bracket and a reflector suited to retroreflective operation.

How is short-circuit and polarity protection handled?

The sensor incorporates reverse-polarity protection on supply connections and protection for inputs and outputs against common fault conditions.
